Eastern highlands, unexpected altitude, a region that surprises everyone who discovers it.

Nobody expects great coffee from eastern Guatemala. Nuevo Oriente — which covers departments including Chiquimula, Jalapa, and Zacapa — sits in a region most travelers pass through without stopping. But the highland pockets here, especially around Olopa in Chiquimula, reach elevations that produce slow-developed, structured coffee with a clean, balanced character that holds up against any other Guatemalan origin.
